Bono Downplays Billion-Dollar Facebook IPO Haul

U2 singer Bono was already a wealthy man before Friday's  Facebook IPO
. But thanks to the 2.3 percent stake in the social networking site held by his Elevation Partners investment group (brought for $90 million in 2009), the singer has been catapulted from rich to dazzlingly wealthy. 
  
Bono became the world's richest musician, sitting on a massive pile of green after his 2.3 
percent share of Facebook ushered $1.5 billion when the company went public. In the process Bono topples former Beatles band member Paul McCartney as the world's richest rock star,  whose fortune is estimated to be worth around $1.05 billion.

'Avengers' Dream Run Threatens To Sink 'Battleship's' US Launch

'Battleship', the big-budget American science fiction action naval war film inspired by on the board game of the same name  is likely to become the next casualty  to 'The Avengers' record box-office juggernaut.

Universal's new sci-fi thriller, directed by Peter Berg  opens on May 18 in 3,690 US and Canadian theaters. It is estimated to garner ticket sales of $35 million to $40 million over its first weekend.

Michael Jackson's Costume Collection To Be Auctioned In December

American Singer, Michael Jackson's costume collection will be up for auction in December. The iconic crystal glove of MJ, valued at more than $400,000, will be part of the auction too.
 
MJ's 50 to 100 famous fashion articles are expected to fetch more than $400,000. On December, Julien's in Beverly Hills, California will auction the collection after the collection is toured worldwide. 

Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush are the costume designers behind the collection and many pieces are autographed by the King of Pop.

Piper Jaffray Downgrades DynaVox (NASDAQ: DVOX) from OVERWEIGHT to NEUTRAL,Target Price Reduced

Analysts at Piper Jaffray downgrade their rating on the shares of DynaVox (NASDAQ: DVOX) from OVERWEIGHT to NEUTRAL.  The 12-month target has been reduced from $5 to $2.30.

In a research note published on May 15, the analysts mention that due to the declining of the revenues by 16 percent, Dynavox faced surprising difficulty, for the 2nd consecutive quarter, as in the first 9 months of CY11, it was a stark contrast to the growth of 5 percent y/y.

‘John Carter’ Flop Fails to Impact Walt Disney 21 Percent Profit Growth

The 'John Carter' film debacle failed to impact the earnings of Walt Disney Co (NYSE : DIS), which reported strong quarterly earnings on the strength of robust television and theme park income. The company posted quarterly net income of $1.14 billion, or 63 cents a share, which meant 21 percent increase from a profit of $942 million, or 49 cents a share, a year earlier.

Disney said that revenue in the quarter went up 6 percent to $9.6 billion for the second quarter ended March 31, compared with the year ago quarter. It forecasts a bright future and said that it was planning to make a sequel to its current hit, 'The Avengers.'

Biggest Loss for Dow in 2012 on Heightened Europe Concern

For a second straight week, the US stocks plunged giving the Dow Jones Industrial Average the biggest loss of 2012 mainly due to heightened concern over Europe’s debt crisis, political turmoil in Greece and the $ 2 billion trading loss suffered by JPMorgan (NYSE : JPM) that pulled down bank shares.

For the week, there was a drop of at least 1.7 percent in financial and technology stocks in the Standard & Poor’s Index. JPMorgan dropped 11 percent and Cisco Systems’ (NASDAQ : CSCO) forecast missed analysts’ estimates. Macy’s Inc dropped 7.6 percent and Fossil Inc plunged 39 percent amid disappointing projections. One of the bright points was the rising of Walt Disney by 6.1 percent to an all-time high.

Cognizant(CTSH) Q1 Profit Rises On Higher Revenues

On Monday, Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp (NASDAQ : CTSH) the IT, consulting and BPO services provider, reported a higher Q1 profit, chiefly aided by a revenue surge in all region and segments.

Cognizant's net income grew from last year's $208.33 million or $0.67 per share to $243.65 million or $0.79 per share, in-line with analysts' expectations from  A. On average analysts' expected earnings of $0.79 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Revenue jumped 24.8 percent from $1.37 billion in the previous year  to $1.71 billion last year. It was in-line with  analysts' consensus estimate.
Going forward,  to the second quarter of 2012, the company expects earnings per share to be $0.80, with revenue anticipated to be at least $1.79 billion. Analysts project earnings of $0.83 per share on $1.84 billion revenue for the quarter. The company also announced an additional $400 million share buyback program.

S&P Capital IQ Reiterates BUY Rating on Realnetworks (NASDAQ: RNWK)

Analyst Scott Kessler of S&P Capital IQ maintains his BUY rating on the shares of Realnetworks (NASDAQ: RNWK). 

In a research note published yesterday, the analyst mentions that the company reported Q1 loss per share of $0.49 vs a loss of $0.36, that was $0.09 worse than the Capital IQ consensus estimate. Realnetworks’ revenues fell 17%, marginally above the Capital IQ consensus forecast. The company’s fundamental story has been challenged for a number of quarters, the analyst says. The company is looking into better focus and to generate shareholder value, as SaaS and games operations being strategic alternatives. Realnetworks has around $287 million in cash/short term investment, with turnaround efforts ensuing, according to S&P Capital IQ.

Deutsche Bank Securities Keeps BUY Rating on SM Energy (NYSE: SM)

Analysts at Deutsche Bank Securities keeps BUY rating on the shares of SM Energy (NYSE: SM). The 12-month target price is set to $112.
  
In a research note published this morning, the analysts mention that  with better than expected oil volumes and outstanding cost control only overshadowed by weak differentials, the overriding bear thesis of a divestiture driven mix-shift towards gas in Q1 ended up feeling a bit like 'Y2K'. Whereas, 20percent discount of stock to its peers seems to imply an unlikely coming cut to 2012 numbers. It is believed that continued operational execution to drive share outperformance going forward.

US Manufacturing helps Asian Stocks to Rise

Strong manufacturing in the two biggest economies, US and China, helped Asian stocks to rise, led by Taiwan and mainland China, while regional bond risk fell.

According to the reports, the manufacturing expanded unexpectedly in the US and Chinese factory index rose in April. The major gains in the Asian Benchmarks was led by the The Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index and Taiwan’s Taiex gauge. Trading volumes in China were 41 percent above.

Where, the yen slid against all of its 16 major peers, in Tokyo the MSCI Asia Pacific Index added 0.8 percent as of 2:18 pm, while the Taiex Index hiked 2.3 percent. The Shanghai composite gauge hiked the most in two weeks, 1.8 percent.
 
While, the won touched the strongest level in a month, the yen weakened 0.3 percent against the dollar. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures was changed a little after the gauge closed at the highest level since 2007 on Tuesday.

Chrysler Group's New Vehicle Sales Up 20 Percent

Chrysler Group LLC' s marked its best performance in four years last month, with an increase of 20 percent in its US new-vehicle sales. The US automaker witnessed sales of 141,165 vehicles, against 117,225 in the same month in 2011. 

The company, controlled by Fiat SpA of Italy, sees the April annual selling rate for the industry to reach 14.6 million vehicles, more than the 14.4 million that Thomson Reuters' analysts estimated on the basis of a survey. The selling rate would also top the March rate of 14.4 million.

Analysts believe that regardless of the rise in the sales in Q1, a pullback is likely later in the year. The sales went up on high fuel prices and warm weather.
